Why New Years Is An Overrated Celebration And We Should End It

The Sun sets, and the next day it rises again. It happens everyday. It’s not some miracle, it’s not some spiritual awakening. It just is. There’s nothing magical about it.

Sure we get to start a new calendar, but we don’t celebrate turning over a new month, so why suddenly is the ending of a day, and the beginning of the next amongst the most important events of the year?

The Gregorian calendar has only been in use, for just over 400 years. Nor is it used in every single country. For example, Chinese New Year is based around the lunar calendar and is a different date each year. Photo by Zoe Ra on Unsplash
